Description

An easy, make-ahead breakfast casserole that transforms the classic Monte Cristo sandwich into a crowd-pleasing baked dish, perfect for brunch.


Ingredients

  • 12 slices of white bread, crusts removed
  • 8 ounces of deli ham, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces of deli turkey, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces of Swiss cheese, sliced
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Raspberry jam for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch dish with butter.
  2. Layer 6 bread slices in the dish.
  3. Top with half the ham, turkey, and cheese.
  4. Add remaining bread, then remaining meats and cheese.
  5. Whisk eggs, milk, mustard, and spices.
  6. Pour egg mixture evenly over casserole. Press down gently.
  7. Drizzle with melted butter. Cover and refrigerate 30 min or overnight.
  8. Bake covered for 30 minutes.
  9. Uncover and bake 15-20 min until golden and set.
  10. Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with jam.

Notes

For best results, prepare the night before and bake in the morning.
