An easy, make-ahead breakfast casserole that transforms the classic Monte Cristo sandwich into a crowd-pleasing baked dish, perfect for brunch.

- 12 slices of white bread, crusts removed
- 8 ounces of deli ham, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces of deli turkey, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces of Swiss cheese, sliced
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups of milk
- 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Raspberry jam for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch dish with butter.
- Layer 6 bread slices in the dish.
- Top with half the ham, turkey, and cheese.
- Add remaining bread, then remaining meats and cheese.
- Whisk eggs, milk, mustard, and spices.
- Pour egg mixture evenly over casserole. Press down gently.
- Drizzle with melted butter. Cover and refrigerate 30 min or overnight.
- Bake covered for 30 minutes.
- Uncover and bake 15-20 min until golden and set.
- Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with jam.
Notes
For best results, prepare the night before and bake in the morning.
