- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 4 teaspoons grated orange zest
- 1/3 cup orange juice
- 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tablespoons 2% milk
- 3 drops orange food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Cream butter, sugar, and salt for 5-7 mins until light/fluffy.
- Beat in egg, orange zest, juice, and lemon extract.
- Gradually mix in flour on low until just combined.
- Divide dough, shape into disks, wrap, and chill for 1+ hours.
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Roll dough to 1/4″ thick and cut shapes.
- Bake on greased sheets for 8-10 mins until edges are light brown.
- Cool completely on wire racks.
- Mix icing ingredients until smooth, then pipe/spread over cookies.
Notes
Ensure butter is softened, not melted. Chilling dough is essential for best results.
