- 1.5 lbs ground chicken
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced (any color)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 6 hamburger buns, for serving
- Coleslaw and pickles, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Mix all Cajun spice blend ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook for 5-6 mins, breaking it up.
- Add onion and bell pepper; cook for 4-5 mins until softening.
- Add garlic and spice blend; cook for 1 min until fragrant.
- Stir in tomato sauce, paste, Worcestershire, brown sugar, and broth.
- Simmer for 8-10 mins, until thickened.
- Serve on buns topped with coleslaw and pickles.
Notes
Heat level can be adjusted by increasing or omitting the cayenne pepper. Filling can be made ahead and frozen.
